Blue and gray text that reads Commitment to access and equity in higher education for students in Southeast Nebraska.
I have been proudly serving as a successful member of the Southeast Community College Board of Governors since 2023. In this role, I have drawn on my unique qualifications of a PhD in working with educational data, an MBA, and experience serving on a non-profit board. My work on the Board has helped reduce property taxes, reach more students, strengthen partnerships with local businesses, and more. I've balanced the needs of students, business, taxpayers, and the community as a whole. If re-elected, I will continue to ensure access to high-quality higher education in Southeast Nebraska for students with many different backgrounds, at distinct stages of their lives, with unique needs and goals. But education itself is not the only goal: SCC fulfills a crucial mission of providing a highly skilled workforce for Southeast Nebraska and fueling the economy.
Recent years on the Board of Governors have brought about unprecedented change. Importantly, we drastically reduced reliance on property taxes while making the College stronger than ever. As the incumbent in the race, I bring a wealth of experience to the Board of Governors. The role of Board of Governors Member is complex with a steep learning curve. From funding sources to obscure concepts like COPS financing, I have already learned the ins and outs of the role and can incorporate the many factors required in making the right decision for the College and the 15-county service area.
My values are consistent with the Open Access mission of SCC. I believe in ensuring equity and access while maintaining excellent value for students and taxpayers. I want all students seeking higher education to feel welcomed and have the resources to access credit-bearing coursework and continuing education, especially including those from diverse backgrounds.
